Cookies & Privacy

Short version: this site doesn’t track you.

Cookies

This website sets no tracking cookies and has no adverts. The only exception is the contact and memory forms, which use a temporary session cookie while you fill them in, to keep out spam robots; it is deleted when you close your browser.

If you use the light/dark switch, your choice is remembered in your own browser (local storage). It is never sent to this website.

YouTube and Facebook

The TV adverts are hosted on YouTube. Until you press play, each video is just a picture stored on this website, so nothing is loaded from YouTube. When you press play, the video loads from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced service (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube’s own privacy policy then applies.

Likewise, the Facebook posts on the home page only load if you press “Show Facebook posts”. Facebook may then set its own cookies; see Facebook’s privacy policy.

Visitor statistics

This site counts its own visitors, without cookies and without Google or any other outside service. No IP address is kept: each visitor is counted using a code that changes every day, so nobody can be followed from one day to the next. The town or country a visit came from is worked out on this server, and only that is kept. The quiz stores only how many people got each score.

Memories

If you share a memory, it is stored on this website and published (after being read) with the name you give. Your email address, if you give one, is never shown; it is only used to tell you when your memory is published or to ask about it. To have a memory changed or removed, use the contact page.

Messages

If you send a message through the contact form, your name, email address and message are emailed to the site’s author so that he can reply. They are not stored on the website or passed to anyone else.
